Once in awhile, politics does transcend into the sporting arena. On Saturday February 1, 2025 American President Donald Trump declared an economic war against Canada. His rationale for such an action, well, you have to scratch your head. His goals, not totally clear, but he related that he wants to bankrupt Canada into becoming the USA’s 51st state. Hmmm.
In the hockey world, this action would be like checking someone from behind, causing injury. A player of unquestionably good character and honour being blindsided. Didn’t see it coming. The perpetrator (Bully) would have to prepare for a response from the victim’s team.
Well, it just so happens that the Ottawa Senators were hosting the visiting Minnesota Wild in the nations capital on the evening of February 1, 2025. How fitting! And when the American Anthem was played, the Canadian Boo Birds made themselves loudly known. Without doubt, some were proudly wearing their famous Canadian Tuxedos.
This was their polite way of letting the American people know that they are offside. Declaring war against their closest ally and friend. Canadians have stood shoulder to shoulder with the USA on many occasions and have sacrificed much over our shared histories. One could write volumes about the shared histories. Canada recently provided tremendous support to California during one of its worst ever natural disasters. Loyalty and friendship must not mean very much. Very poor form, USA.
So, thank you very much to the Fans of the Ottawa Senators for their very quick response to Donald Trump.
Only one day later, the Toronto Raptors and Vancouver Canucks Fans have already followed suit. Let’s see if this “WAVE” can go from coast to coast to coast, Aye.
Go Canada Go!!

Greetings. In introducing myself, I must relate that family is most important. I am a husband, father and grandfather. Beautiful extended family. I was born in the 60’s. Graduated from Laurentian University in Sudbury in 1985 with a degree in Social Work. Recently retired.
Sports has been and continues to be my foremost outlet for stress. I have been a coach/ trainer on over 40 youth teams, including hockey, baseball and soccer. Hockey is my number one sport. Began playing as a young child and continue to play several times per week. Huge Fan. I am not an expert per say when it comes to having close contacts to the hockey world. Still have expertise as a Fan. I have probably earned some form of “Hockey PTSD” over the years with the highs and lows of the cheering for the Leafs. I want to respectfully share my opinion and respectfully view your opinions. Should be fun. Keep your stick on the ice.
Take Care and Stay Safe.
