Draisaitl Scores In 1st OT Period To Give the Oilers A 5-4 Victory And Even The Series At 2 Games Each
With the Panthers trailing 4-3 late in the third period, Florida pulled their goalie in an attempt to tie the game. As luck would have it, Sam Reinhardt scored with 20 seconds remaining in the frame.
This followed a tremendous comeback by Edmonton as they scored 4 unanswered goals after being down 3-0 after one period.
The overtime period featured back and forth action. Either team could win it, but only one would. With 11:18 into overtime, Leon Draisaitl once again fired home the winner and evened the series at two games a piece.
Each Team Owned One Period After 40 Minutes In A Sea-Saw Affair
It was like watching three different games all in one. A true emotional rollercoaster experience complete with highs and lows. Each team owned one of the first two periods, and the remainder of the game was a tight battle.
The Florida Panthers dominated the first period outscoring the Edmonton Oilers 3-0. Florida’s dominance would have most observers feeling this pivotal game was over and so was the series. With a loss, the Oilers would face an unlikely task of having to win 3 straight games against a very tough Florida team. Scoring for Florida in this period were Matthew Tkachuk with two and Anton Lundell with the other.
The Oilers pulled starting goaltender Stuart Skinner after the first period and replaced him with back-up goalie Calvin Pickard in an attempt to shake things up. The Oilers then dominated this period with energy and controlling the play, just as Florida had done in the first period. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins opened the scoring for the Oilers in the second period. Darnel Nurse and Vasily Podkoizin had the other two goals in this period to complete this miraculous come-back.
The third period had the Oilers take the lead on a goal by Jake Walman. This set up the late third period tying goal by Reinhart sending the game to OT.
Game 5 has the teams return to Edmonton on Saturday evening, which gives the Oilers home ice advantage by having the last change and a favourable boisterous crowd.

Sports has been and continues to be my foremost outlet for stress. I have been a coach/ trainer on over 40 youth teams, including hockey, baseball and soccer. Hockey is my number one sport. Began playing as a young child and continue to play several times per week. Huge Fan. I am not an expert per say when it comes to having close contacts to the hockey world. Still have expertise as a Fan. I have probably earned some form of “Hockey PTSD” over the years with the highs and lows of the cheering for the Leafs.
